5 Fan-Tastic Ways to Maximize Your Fan’s Efficiency

Home Heating and Cooling, Home Tips

Fans are fan-tastic for keeping your home cool in the summer. But are you getting the most out of them? Let us help!

Nothing fan-cy. Just five simple tips to maximize efficiency and get the most out of your ceiling fans!

1.) Switch your fan’s direction

During the summer, run your fan in a counter-clockwise direction to push cool air down and set your thermostat a few degrees higher. Running your fan while keeping your A/C on low won’t save you any energy.

2.) Set your fan to the right angle

For maximum cooling, set your ceiling fan blades between 12 and 16 degrees. While you can set them above 16 degrees, you run the risk of blowing around loose objects.

3.) Get an ENERGY STAR®-certified ceiling fan

Not only do ENERGY STAR-certified ceiling fans come in a variety of different styles, but they are also 60% more energy efficient than conventional units. Most new units have up to six speeds and use only 33 watts. Efficiency never looked so good!

4.) Using LED lights is a bright idea!

Stack up your savings and use ENERGY STAR-certified LED lights in your ceiling fan. These bulbs last longer and use up to 90% less energy than conventional light bulbs.

5.) Turn your fan off.

No, that’s not a typo. Fans cools people — not rooms — by pushing cool air down and leaving you feeling naturally cool and refreshed. If nobody is in the room, remember to turn off your fan.

So now you see why we’re big fans of fans and we hope you are too. When it comes to saving you energy, while keeping you cool and comfy during summer’s hottest months, fans are fan-tastic!
