Spice up your space with DIY potpourri!

Home Hacks, Home Tips, Recipes and DIY

One of our favorite parts of fall are the smells. In fact, “Fall Smells” probably rank somewhere between “Football Season” and “Pumpkin Spice Lattes” on our list of seasonal favorites. So, it just makes sense to add some scents of cinnamon, cloves, and fresh dried fruit.

Before you buy air fresheners or plug-ins, give this DIY potpourri a try. It’s so easy to do, and the fresh fragrances will have you saying “Ahhh…”!!

Thanks to HGTV for the instructions! While the final product is a mixed bag, the results are anything but.

Materials

  1. Knife
  2. Plastic bag
  3. Cooking rack
  4. Decorative jar
  5. 1 orange
  6. 1 lemon
  7. Bay leaves
  8. 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  9. Clove essential oil
  10. 1 apple
  11. 1 pear
  12. Cinnamon sticks
  13. Cloves
  14. Orange essential oil

Directions

  1. Dehydrate Fruit: Thinly slice an orange, lemon, apple, and pear. Place them on a metal cooking rack. Using your oven’s dehydrate setting, cook the fruit slices until they are fully dried, making sure to flip them every half hour.
  2. Mix Ingredients: After the dried fruit is completely cool, place it in a sealable plastic bag. Add dried bay leaves, a teaspoon of cinnamon, cloves, cinnamon sticks and a few drops of orange and clove essential oils. Seal and shake the bag to mix all of the ingredients.
  1. Package + Display: Pour the mixed potpourri into a jar of your choosing and cover the opening with a decorative cloth before sealing the lid. Give as a cute gift or save it until you’re ready to use it yourself. If the potpourri ever needs a refresh, just add a few drops of essential oils to make it as good as new.

See how making your home smell blissful is a breeze? Now you’ll be treated to a wonderful fragrance while watching the big game!
