Turn a Day Inside into a Day to Remember!

Save energy with these energy-efficient, stay-at-home kid’s activities!

Kids have a TON of energy (trust us, we’re experts on energy), especially when they have been cooped up inside for a while. Looking for ways to entertain while saving energy? Put their energy to good use with these fun, energy-efficient activities.

Make a (good) mess!

Believe it or not, making a mess can be fun, at least when you’re making Oobleck! Oobleck is based on Dr. Seuss’ Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Oobleck fell from the sky, but you can make it at home with stuff from your pantry. Plus, your kids will learn about non-Newtonian fluids (fluids that act like a liquid when poured, but like a solid when touched). Don’t worry, it’s easy to clean too. Make your own.

Experiment with energy.
Charge up your at-home curriculum with some fun energy experiments. Your kids can get hands-on energy-related experiments that show them how to make a solar cookie, complete a circuit and more.  Check out PSO’s Energy Fun Lab for a complete list of experiments and necessary materials.

Bored inside? Play board games!

In need of a screen-time break? We’re big fans of board games! You’ll save energy and beat boredom with a round of friendly competition. If your kids are younger (ages 4-7), consider games like Shoots and Ladders, Hungry, Hungry Hippos, or Candy Land. For kids a little older, you can’t beat classics like Clue, Life or Monopoly.

Make saving energy a game.

You don’t need a board game — you can make saving energy a game! It’s always a good idea to turn off the lights during the day or when you’re not in the room. So every time one of your kids turns out the light, give them a point. Most points at the end of the day or week gets a prize!
